Un mercoledì da leoni (Big Wednesday) è un film del 1978 diretto da John Milius e dedicato al mondo del surf. Alla sua uscita la pellicola fu un flop, ma nel tempo è divenuto un classico; il film affronta numerosi temi (l’amicizia, la morte, l’adolescenza), in maniera mai superficiale, il tutto decorato con le avventure in acqua dei tre protagonisti, che si divertono a praticare evoluzioni con il surf. John Milius presenta una sorta di avventura autobiografica, in ricordo dei propri anni giovanili passati a Malibu, California, accompagnata dalle musiche memorabili di Basil Poledouris. La spettacolarità delle riprese in acqua dona al film un grande fascino.
